Lewis Capaldi, Chemical Brothers, Thom Yorke, Yola lead UK charge at 2020 Grammys

Lewis Capaldi has secured a Grammys nomination for Someone You Loved in the coveted Song Of The Year category.

Capaldi and his co-writers are in the running with the transatlantic No.1 single, along with Lady Gaga’s A Star Is Born track Always Remember Us This Way, Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy, Bring My Flowers Now by Tanya Tucker, Hard Place by HER, Lover by Taylor Swift, Norman Fucking Rockwell by Lana Del Rey and Truth Hurts by Lizzo. Swift is nominated in three categories, though not for Album Of The Year

In the album category, Eilish, Del Rey, Lizzo and HER are up against Bon Iver, Ariana Grande, Lil Nas X and Vampire Weekend. Record Of The Year is a battle between Bon Iver (Hey, Ma), Eilish (Bad Guy), Ariana Grande (7 Rings), Her (Hard Place), Khalid (Talk), Lil Nas X (Old Town Road), Lizzo (Truth Hurts) and Post Malone & Swae Lee (Sunflower).

Lizzo has the most nominations with eight, while Eilish is up for six awards, alongside nods for best engineered album and producer (Finneas O’Connell). Lil Nas X is also up for six awards.

No UK acts make the other big categories of Record Of The Year and Album Of The Year, though Yola is up for Best New Artist, alongside Black Pumas, Eilish, Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Maggie Rogers, Rosalia and Tank And The Bangas. Yola is nominated in three other categories for roots/Americana awards. 

Other UK successes include Thom Yorke, who has four nominations, including Best Alternative Album for Anima. James Blake is also nominated in the same category for Assume Form. 

Ed Sheeran is nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for No.6 Collaborations Project. Labrinth (Timothy McKenzie) is nominated for Best Song Written For Visual Media (Spirit) with co-writers Beyonce Knowles-Carter and Ilya Salmanzadeh from The Lion King. 

Nao is competing with North American rivals in the Best Urban Contemporary Album category. 

Elvis Costello & The Imposters’ Look Now is up for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Chemical Brothers have three nominations, including Best Music Video for We’ve Got To Try.

In the Best Rock Performance category, Bones UK are in the running, while The 1975 are up for Best Rock Song (Give Yourself A Try).

Best Rock Album includes nods for Bring Me The Horizon (Amo) and The Cranberries (In The End).

Brummie veterans Steel Pulse are up for Best Reggae Album (Mass Manipulation).

Imogen Heap is in the running for Best Musical Theatre Album (Harry Potter And The Cursed Child).

The 62nd Grammy Awards nominations were announced by 15-time winning singer-songwriter Alicia Keys, Recording Academy president/CEO Deborah Dugan and chair of the board of trustees Harvey Mason Jr. 

The nominees are selected by industry committees and awards are voted for by Recording Academy members.

The ceremony will take place at the Staples Centre in LA on Sunday, January 26. Keys will host the Grammys again following her debut overseeing the ceremony this year.
